When Symmetry set out to prove it had the best prosthetic system available, there was only one person who could give it the ultimate test, world-renowned Golden Knight, Dana Bowman. If anyone knows how to punish a prosthetic limb, it's world-renowned Golden Knight and motivational speaker, Dana Bowman.
His trademark: "It's not the disability, it's the ability."
His passion: Motivating others to look beyond their limitations to the possibilities.
His pastimes: Bicycling, motorcycle racing, scuba diving, water skiing, snowmobiling and yes, sky diving
In 1994, Dana and his best friend were performing a routine but dangerous stunt as members of the U.S. Army Golden Knights skydiving team. They had demonstrated this stunt more than 50 times without a mistake, but this time, a mid-air collision left both of Dana's legs amputated and his best friend deceased. The tragedy changed Dana's life forever, but nine months later, he re-enlisted in the Army and re-joined the Golden Knights, this time as the group's first amputee member. For fifteen years as a double amputee, Dana continually searched for more functional and more stable prosthetics. He had seen it all, until he found Symmetry.
"Rick Scussel contacted me and asked me to take a look at a prosthetic leg that was supposed to be more secure than the prosthetics I had already been using. Obviously, I'll try anything! So I said I'd give it a shot. I was skeptical at first because I thought I'd seen it all. But I was wrong. Yes, there was the added stability of the prosthesis when I landed after a parachute jump. It stayed in place, without rotating. But, because the socket wall sits much lower on my residual leg, I don't have to deal with the rubbing and irritation around my hip and groin area. With Symmetry, I can comfortably put my hands in my pockets now. I haven't been able to do that in 15 years! That's just one of those little things I used to miss, until I found Symmetry. The system works better than anything I've had in the past."
